This was the very first blog post I ever wrote about my daughter, she was just 8 months old, teething, and learning how to crawl. Now here we are, celebrating her 4th birthday, in the age of make believe and fairy tales, and learning how to read....what a gift these past 4 years have been!

I'd like to share the prayer she said on the night of her birthday last week...

Dear God,

Thank you for my house

Thank you for my brother

Thank you for my toys

Please help the kids who don't have toys

Thank you for my house.....wait, did I already say that mommy?

Please help me learn how to draw a flower

Thank you for my mommy and daddy.

Amen.

Happy Birthday my dear Riley Jane!

A labor of love

When I brought home Riley from the hospital almost four years ago, I didn't know what to do with myself. You see, all she did was sleep....and then sleep some more. In fact, I remember wondering, "Isn't having a newborn suppose to be hard work?" For the next three months, she would sleep for hours on end waking up only to eat, and then right back to sleep she went. I have since learned that I was blessed to have a very easy baby,...because Lucas, is a whole different story!

My sweet baby boy is perfect in every way, but he certainly is different than his sister. In a way, I feel like a new mom all over again...trying to figure out what all of his different cries mean and endlessly searching the internet and books trying to determine what I can do to help him feel better. It's not that he cries all the time, it's that he cries the second you put him down...or the second you stop moving. Needless to say, there have been many days when I must have walked at least 5 miles inside my small house. And if you don't mind me complaining, carrying a 12 pound baby around for 8 hours straight is exhausting...both physically and emotionally! My dear Lucas is also the king of cat naps...he has yet to learn that it is okay to sleep for more than 30 minutes during the day (surprisingly he sleeps pretty good on most nights). Despite the challenges, I am doing well and Ryan is amazing at taking over once he gets home from work so I can have a break to rest.

So my dear blog readers, even though I thought I would be able to update my blog regularly once he was born, it will probably be another few weeks before I am back to regular postings. I miss sharing pictures and writing and can't wait to get back to it in a few more weeks!

Oh Kelli, I didn't know you had it so nice with Riley! You were very lucky! Noah had Colic the first three months. As a first time mom, man that was difficult! So I know how you feel! Noah may never have a sibling. You are lucky Lucas came second! If you ever want any tips on how we dealt with our "high-maintance baby" let me know! Hang in there!

My Sweet Baby Boy

4 weeks ago we welcomed our sweet baby boy into the world...

all 9lbs 15 oz of him.

I had him at a wonderful hospital in Davis...it was a water birth.

He is a big happy little guy.

I am in love.

But oh, has he been keeping me busy!

He loves to sleep on my chest...I think he likes the sound of my heart beat.

I could stare at his sweet face forever.

His big sister adores him and is a natural at helping me take care of him...

in fact, she asked me today if she could bring him to school with her.

I know how blessed I am to have 2 beautiful and healthy children...I am beyond lucky to be their mother.

Maternity Leave....and other thoughts on pregnancy

Today is Saturday, one day past my original due date. The past 48 hours have been a mix of feeling completely content that this baby will arrive when he is good and ready to completely anxious, thinking.....OMG, get here already baby!! My daughter was born on her due date and I thought for sure this little guy would be born either before or on his due date....guess I learned my lesson not to assume anything when it comes to due dates =) But he can't stay in there forever right?

I also wanted to briefly mention that for the next few weeks, I will be on maternity leave and will do my best to respond to phone calls and emails when I can. I'm not exactly sure when I'll start scheduling sessions again...but I can't stay away from my camera for too long...so it will probably be sooner rather than later :) You can be sure though that I will be back to share pics of our new baby after he decides to make his arrival.
